Sleek. Elongating. Glamorous. The YSL Opyum and Cassandra Heels exude femininity. The elegant and gorgeous Opyum heels debuted in Anthony Vaccarello’s debut collection in September 2017’s Paris Fashion Week, and were soon flying off the shelves, becoming a sell-out piece.
I love my YSL Tributes – (blog post here) – they defy the impossible trinity. Height, stability *and* comfort. Adding a total of 136mm of height and +10 style points to any outfit, the YSL tributes will elevate your outfit whilst keeping you comfortable. They provide more of a chunky look versus the delicate Cassandra and Opyums, and so the shoes are complementary. Read: excuse for more shoes!
OPYUM
Logomania, plastering large logos on every inch of fabric loud and clear, was a craze in the late 2010s, and one I’m glad to see the back of. This is in stark contrast to this year’s retreat back to the delicate “Old Money” (whether you like that term or not) aesthetic. However, YSL has always been a step ahead of the game. The golden glistening YSL logo, whilst large, *never* succumbed to logomania, and cannot be categorised as such. The fashion house has always delicately printed it on bags and shoes, like a seal of approval on key pieces. Indeed, the Opyum heels feature the golden iconic logo in such an innovative way, and the sandals themselves are sleek, slender and elegant.
Balancing at 110mm, the Opyums elongate your legs, and the delicate straps create a true feminine feel. Created with 100% calfskin leather, the black patent and antique gold “Cassandre YSL logo” heel sandals are a s-t-u-n-n-i-n-g piece for many date nights ahead. The Opyums with the black heel have a more discreet yet edgy feel, if you’re having a more low-key dinner. Or, if you’d like to make a bang (an elegant bang though), take a look at these crystal embellished satin Opyums – perfect for a special occasion. The Opyums also have a slightly lower heel at 85mm if you’re looking to add slightly less height.
The shoes fit true to size – I chose a 38.5 for both the Opyums and the Cassandras. Now, a note of caution. As I’ve explained above, the Opyum sandals are elegant and a hot date night dinner piece. And, however, they are an “Uber shoe”; do not expect to be dancing the night away in these! If you’re wanting a tall, super comfortable dancing shoe, then look no further than the YSL Tributes (and see my post here). These have unparalleled comfort levels and I wore them for about 80% of the night of my overnight Trinity May Ball (Prom and Ball dress post is here). The platform at the front means that the heel feels smaller than it is, and also cushions your feet – clever!
CASSANDRA
Stiletto heels and comfort? Impossible right? The Cassandras have made the impossible, well, possible. I prefer the Cassandra’s to the Opyums. They still contain the iconic golden “Cassandre” YSL logo, and displayed prominently but elegantly at the front of the shoe, creating a lovely embellishment on a sleek and slender black heel. And, the Cassandra’s are not an uber shoe! “How?” You may ask. They look so similar? With the Cassandras the shape of the heel, heel box and square toe box means that the shoe hugs you, helping you feel supported … so much so that once I took the shoes off, I wanted to put them back on for comfort and height!
The black glossy style is my favourite, as the golden embellishment adds a touch of glamour to your outfit, whilst the black heels with matte black logo create more of an edgy vibe.
BAGS & SHOES, SHOES & BAGS
Now you have your shoes sorted, you *need* a matching bag of course 😉 (I’m such an enabler …) I’d recommend the YSL Cassandre wallet on chain – in a similar fashion to the shoes, the bag is an elegant and timeless piece, and the iconic chevron pattern and gold hallmark makes the bag stand out in an graceful way. If you’d like to know more about the history of the bag and my recommendations, read my blog post here.
Which YSL heels do you like the most? Are you a Tributes lover? Or do you prefer the elegance of the Cassandras? Which YSL bags are on your Wishlist? Would love to hear your thoughts on these pieces!
Lots of love, Jo xoxo
