Fendi Peekaboo: Yin & Yang

*January 2024 update from April 2022* Directed by Luca Guadagnino and starring supermodel Adowa Aboah, Fendi’s Peekaboo Spring Summer 2022 campaign combines new creativity with female empowerment whilst showcasing a vibrant, bright and fun Fendi collection.

“The Fendi woman is empowered: she is someone of her own making”, Kim Jones voices.

Indeed, the new campaign focuses on Adwoa Aboah flying over Rome, being whisked across the city, aided by her magical Fendi Peekaboo.

YIN AND YANG – FUN AND FUN-CTION

Indeed, the Fendi Peekaboo empowers women in more ways than one.

Peekaboo, I see you! Debuting in 2008, Fendi’s iconic accessory combines a fun façade, with a truly functional interior. Three interior pockets help to separate your phone and wallet and keys in one section (‘The Essentials‘), your papier notebook and pen in another (‘The Nice to Haves‘), and your lipgloss, lipbalm and mascara in another, detachable compartment (The ‘Everyday is a Fashion Show’ Gadgets).

The bag can be seen as a metaphor; women are fun and have a serious side, can be playful whilst working towards their goals. The Peekaboo truly epitomises this dynamic, and is one of the few (only?) bags which combines these yin-and-yang concepts.

THE PEEKABOO IS A TRULY EMPOWERING ICON, COMBINING THE YIN AND YANG OF FUN AND FUN-CTION, PLAY AND FORM, STYLE AND USABILITY.

This season’s vibrant colours signal that spring has sprung, and the dawn of a new, revitalised summer. A summer where we have a deep, new energy to enjoy life, and carpe diem, seize the opportunities which we have been deprived of for the last couple of years.

This summer, I am seeing lots of bright orange, pink and lime green. Think skirts (or, my favourite, skorts), teamed with blazers.

Choose to camouflage your cherry pink (either the Red or Fuchsia) Peekaboo by teaming with a lime green skirt and blazer combo. The pink-green contrast is electrifying!

Or, if you take the Hide and Seek Peekaboo game literally, team your beautiful bright lime green Peekaboo with a long green blazer and skirt combo, to *really* play the game.

Add a ray of sunshine to your neutral cosy brown loungewear with a bright yellow Peekaboo ISeeU Petite. This size is perfect for carrying The Essentials on a quick trip to the shops to grab some late night chocolate….

If your colour palette is composed more of neutrals, then the camel brown Peekaboo delivers. Pair with a long cream cape to help transition to spring, or opt for a dark, black trench in the winter months.

YOU MAY BE SMALL BUT I CAN *STILL* SEE YOU

The Peekaboo’s iconic trapezium-silhouette was re-energised through the ISeeU offspring in 2020, which added a detachable extra secret inner compartment.

Now, Fendi is launching the Peekaboo in two new smaller sizes, ISeeU Petite and ISeeU Micro. Despite the size, Peekaboo, I can *Still* See U!

The sizes on the offering will now encompass

  • Micro
  • Petite – My favourite size. It fits ‘The Essentials’ and ‘The Fashion Gadgets’. It’s great as a weekend bag to pop to the shops, as well as an evening bag. Dress it with a gold strap to transition from day to night!
  • Mini
  • Small
  • Medium – I’ve heard it’s the perfect size for carrying around your 13” MacBook for remote work sessions. However, be careful with stretching the leather!

Thank you to my lovely SA at Fendi Bond Street for making an appointment with me to show me the new Peekaboos. I hadn’t been to Fendi in over 2 years and she kindly messaged me to let me know of this new release, and the beautiful shades of pink! I highly recommend the Bond Street boutique. The staff are warm and welcoming, and personalise your Fendi journey. Indeed, she remembered my preferences from over 2 years ago, exactly where we had our first meeting, and why I wanted a Peekaboo in the first place!

NB: I didn’t take any photos in the boutique on my visit yesterday. However, there’s a little throwback photo from the Fendi x Fila collaboration in 2018 in the Selfridge’s pop up space (in all honesty I cannot believe how time has f-l-o-w-n since then)

January 2024 Update: PINKS TO MAKE YOU WINK

I visited the Selfridge’s Fendi store today and was instantly mesmerised by the selection of petite pink ISeeU Peekaboos. The ciclamino pilar and soft gold is so ~ heavenly ~. It doubles up as two bags in one- one side features this iconic calf skin braiding, whilst the other side is created with plain and smooth, shiny calfskin leather. The gorgeous deep fuchsia pink makes it a versatile bag which can be worn in the winter and summer months.

I also loved the lighter, brighter pink bag, created with shiny lambskin leather on both sides. I would say that this shade of pink creates more of a spring and summer piece.

What I loved about both bags is that the hardware is a soft gold. I prefer gold detailing on bags as I feel this truly elevates them to the next level!

The interlaced bag is created with calfskin, whilst the plain bag is created with lambskin; calfskin is firmer and more durable, whilst lambskin is softer but a little harder to take care of. The plain pink retails at £3,200 (Jan 2024), whilst the woven-style bag is priced at £3,500 (Jan 2024). You’re essentially getting 2 bags for a slight difference, so if you’re on the fence, I’d recommend the interlaced bag.

Which Fendi Peekaboo is your favourite? What’s on your wishlist? Let me know in the comments below.

Lots of love, Jo xoxo
