The Burberry Trench

A quintessential British piece, the Burberry Trench is the epitome of British fashion. Created in 1879 by Thomas Burberry, the coat was given to soldiers in the Normandy trenches, and so became known as the “Trench” coat, which later in 1912 was patented. Worn by stars, one of the Coat’s leading roles came in Breakfast at Tiffany’s and since then it has been seen as the ultimate exclusive outwear piece.

The Burberry Kensington Trench Coat

The Kensington Trench has a classic, straight cut fit and excellent attention to detail. The belted cuffs, D-ring belt and countless buttons create this iconic piece. The collar is another unique feature; it takes 1 year for each specialist to learn the stitching, and there are 180 stitches in the collar!

What I love most about this coat is the iconic Burberry plaid, “Haymarket Check”, under the collar, created and added to the coat in the 1920s.

The coat is created with Gabardine cotton. This makes it water resistant, although not waterproof. It’s warm enough to wear in spring and autumn.

COLOURS AND FIT

The coat is available in iconic Honey, Black and Coal Blue. Burberry alerts the shade of the Honey each season so depending on which year you purchase the coat, the Honey is a slightly different hue.

Available in short, mid and a longer length. The short is great for weekend brunches, whilst the longer coat is perfect for taller figures. I’d recommend the mid-length though, as it is more versatile and can be worn with work outfits and casual weekend outfits alike.

Another favourite is the Burberry Chelsea Trench- this is slightly slimmer than the Kensington Trench, and so you may also need to size up.

TOP TIER SERVICE

We all know that the fit of your outfit is everything. Burberry offer a free alteration service if you purchase your coat in store. I’d recommend utilising this to ensure that your coat fits like a glove!

Luxury goods have seen escalated inflation over the last couple of years, and so here’s a little tracker for the Burberry trench.

BURBERRY-INSPIRED PIECES
