With London Fashion Week just days away, I thought I’d shine the spotlight on LFW’s shining star: Burberry. The quintessential British Fashion House will showcase their SS23 collection with a physical catwalk show on Saturday 17th. Today’s post reviews their versatile, everyday bag: the Burberry Lola Bag.
THE LOLA BAG
Debuting just 3 years ago in Burberry’s AW19 show, the bag is a statement daily piece and a great entry-point designer bag to add to your new collection.
Tisci, Burberry’s CEO and mastermind behind the Lola bag, explains that the Lola Bag is “An ode to strong women the world over”. Indeed, the bold “TB” monogram adds a strong emphasis to the bag, creating an iconic statement. Bella, Lourdes, Jourdan and Ella epitomise this boldness in Burberry’s 2022 Lola campaign.
DETAILS
This soft lambskin bag is a great everyday piece; the soft yet thick leather means that you can fit in your everyday essentials, and squeeze in that little bit more- perfect for “i-carry-my-kitchen-sink-with-me” gals! The Lola has also been imagined in cotton canvas and raffia – these are great pieces if you’re looking to expand your collection further, or are looking for an everyday bag with a unique twist.
The quilting adds a little twist to a traditional crossbody bag, whilst the polished Thomas Burberry monogram clasp adds a striking statement.
The metal chain strap matches the polish of the TB monogram, adding further grandeur to the bag. The strap also features a matching soft lambskin section; I love this as it provides a comfortable way to wear your bag across the shoulder, without the chain digging into your skin.
COLOURS
The Lola Bag is available in a variety of colours, meaning you can match it to your outfit. Priced at £1,490, I think this is excellent value – most crossbody bags are at a substantially higher price point, yet Burberry uses premium lambskin, and is a great entry level piece to start your luxury handbag collection.
Here’s a selection of some of my favourite colours, along with outfit inspo:
- Peach pink with gold hardware (here) – my bag of choice, of course.
- Match with a light pink skirt, cropped white blouse, and light pink ballet flats … yes, I already have my outfit sorted, I just need the bag!
- Black with matte black hardware (here) – bold, brave and edgy.
- Team with a cropped black jacket and black skinny jeans for an understated look
- White with gold hardware (here) – a bright white summer holiday staple.
- Perfect for storing your precious essentials when going to the beach. Make sure to wear sunnies as the brilliant white is just as blinding as the sun. And I love it!
- Dark Fern Green with gold hardware (here) – an excellent autumnal transition piece
- This shade of green is my mom’s colour 😉 Hoping to get it for her for her birthday soon <3 She already has the black Lola with silver hardware, so I am sure she will get the same use out of the green!
LOLA QUILTING MAGNIFIED
The Lola Bag has another quilting style – a zoomed in version (here) of the above Lola bag. The design has bigger squares and less stitching… creating a bolder, darker and braver look that will get heads turning.
EXCLUSIVE PIECES
Burberry have created 100 limited edition Lola bags (here) with black lambskin, a gold chain, black top handle and glistening pavé crystals with a TB shape. These light-catching crystals add an extra statement touch, making heads turn. The top handle adds an additional way to wear the bag- it’s a great way to transition the bag from a day time piece to a relaxed, casual early dinner accessory.
Burberry created 100 pieces in black (here) and 100 in metallic (here), priced at £2,450, and I’m sure these collector pieces will sell quick! Whilst I see the traditional Lola as an everyday bag, the limited edition metallic silver Lola is a true show stopper, which will get heads turning at dinner!
Another exclusive style is the pink peach Lola with painted Burberry Horseferry lettering (here) – this adds a unique, edgy touch to the cute pink bag. Priced lower, at £1,350, and an online exclusive.
What do you think of the Lola Bag? Will you be purchasing it soon?
Let me know! Lots of love, Jo xoxo
