repare to be blown away! Blow drys are my guilty pleasure… and girls with long hair will understand. There’s nothing like a long week at work, and then sitting back, relaxing as you get a head massage, hair wash, and have your hair curled. I’ve been going to Duck & Dry (here) since 2018, so read on to see why I’ve been swept up up up and away (+ some ducking great puns. expect no less from me on the pun front 😉 )…
WHAT MAKES D&D UNIQUE?
Founded by ex-Management Consultant Yulia Rorstrom in Chelsea in 2014, Duck&Dry’s aim is to “make clients feel and look great” with an “extra bounce” in their step after a blow-dry!
At the heart of D&D is their vision to create stylish salons, focused on blow-drys. This marks a step away from diversified, traditional hair salons which spread themselves across cutting, colouring, and less emphasis on styling.
Why Duck and Dry? Yulia explains it’s a play on words for “ducking” into the salon and “drying” out, coming out the salon with a gorgeous new look.
A LA CARTE HAIR
D&D have a handy little menu showcasing the blow dries that they can create. If you’re stuck for inspo, then this menu will make your choice much easier. Check out the looks here.
Look 01 (“The Classic Duck”) creates smooth and bouncy hair for those wishing for an understated look. The chic, clean look- great for work.
Look 07 (“Hot Off The Tong”) is my favourite go-to look. Defined waves crated with tongs or straighteners – it’s the “Princess look”! Perfect if you’re having a dinner date or just want to have curls all week (*cough* me *cough*).
UP DO & BRAIDS
As well as blow-outs, D&D have a gorgeous braid service. If you’re going to a birthday party or event, these braids will add a magical touch to your outfit.
Look 03 (“The Grecian Chic”) is a lighter version of look 04: suitable for everyday work.
Look 04 (“The Brazen Braid”) is a true statement: a halo plait that will get heads turning.
STYLISH SALONS
Floral wallpaper, exposed bricks and gold accents, D&D’s interior is a metaphor for their magic: from exposed bricks to a gorgeous floral wallpaper…from everyday hair to gorgeous D&D blow-dried hair, with a touch of gold magic! Take a seat at one of their glossy white egg-shaped stations and be prepare to be pampered. The Prosecco bar is inviting – have a cheeky daytime drink for a truly pampering Saturday!
Neon lettering exclaims, “a ducking good blow”, and it really is. Try it and be swept away!
Currently, D&D have 4 salons across London:
- Mayfair
- Located on North Audley Street, D&D has the perfect weekend location.
- Have a sweaty boxing session at JAB, then enjoy your D&D blow dry, before brunching at NAC! All within a few steps of each other. Then, of course, shop til you drop on Bond Street and Selfridges!
- Soho
- A cute little salon on Carnaby Street, next to Farm Girl Cafe. Enjoy a matcha latte post blue dry!
- Chelsea
- The largest of D&D’s locations, and located on the King’s Road, D&D Chelsea is a great place to get your hair done before having a cute little Acai Bowl at Juice Baby with friends.
- Islington
- The newest of D&D locations, I am yet to tick off my bucket list
- [Closed] Spitalfields
- A great location for the City gals. I hope it reopens as east London needs a D&D 😉 Quick lunchtime pick me up for the corporate girlies.
PARTIES
Fancy a self-care spa day with your besties? D&D have blow-dry parties! Group tables will allow you to sip on Prosecco and catch up as you get your hair tended to. A great way to get dolled up before a wild night out 😉
