The Queen of Sneakers: Alexander McQueen

JD may be the King of Trainers, but Alexander McQueen is the Queen of Sneakers.

My favourite shoes? When you hear a shoe addict say “favourite” and “shoes” in the same sentence, you may assume that they will be talking about the most dazzling high heels, or expensive pair of elegant evening shoes. But, no.

My Alexander McQueens may well be my best pair. I have well and truly worn them to d/e/a/t/h that the cost per wear is probably less than the price of a Flat White at this point (shocking, I know).

Add height? Yes. Comfy? Yes. Would I buy another pair? I’ll take two more. At least.

WHY I LOVE THEM

My favourite thing about these trainers is that they add height without being too bulky or masculine. The platform will instantly add a few extra cms, but you will not feel as though you are wearing platforms or clogging around with heavy blocks on your feet.

VERSATILE PERSONALISATION

The coloured backs make the shoe an iconic fashion statement, and really versatile. As the shoe itself is white, you can easily match it with most outfits. The coloured back adds a little personal touch. Of course, I opted for light pink for my first pair.

OUT OUT?

I recently stumbled upon these golden sneakers browsing online. And. Oh. My! If I was still at Uni, or in my wild party days, I would snap these up right away (Note to self: Disable Apple Pay in case you decide to have a midnight internet shopping trip).

As mentioned above, they add height *and* are super comfy – meaning you can dance the night away without hurting your feet. These ones are glittery, so you will truly stand out – so put on your dancing shoes, shine bright like a diamond and dance the night away!

They say it takes two to tango, and indeed, it takes 2 McQueens for the best night.

UNIQUE TWISTS

McQueen also have a few twists on their classic trainers, if you’re looking to add a unique stamp to your shoes. The all over pastel pink trainers look right up my street! Their new season also features laces with a colourful thread running through which matches the back of the trainers – if you want to your shoes to do the talking (as well as the walking) then this is a great pair to purchase.

THE FIT

I’d say that these trainers are true to size, so don’t size down at all.

I am usually a size 38.5 (UK 5.5), but for some v.e.r.y silly reason I decided to buy the size 38 (UK 5). I tried the 38.5 in store for the first time the other day and they are slightly wider at the front, making them so much more comfy. The 38 is a bit more snug, but I can imagine walking round all day with the 38.5 pain free.

So, turns out, I’ve been wearing small shoes for the past 3 years…

CLEANING: THE SNEAKER DOCTOR

Maintaining white trainers is a skill to be added to your CV. I’ve probably spent the last couple of years wearing them almost every day… safe to say the white is more of an off-white now.

For cleaning, I recently discovered The Shoe Doctor in Selfridges, and I can say that he truly is a magician.  Find his instagram + portfolio + message him for a quote, here

For McQueens, he cleans the uppers, midsole, outsole, internals and laces. He also adds new McQueen laces and premium shoe trees! Your trainers will be returned from their sneaker holiday looking refreshed and revitalised.

Obviously, the Doctors don’t just discriminate with McQueens. He also cleans other designer trainers – from Yeezys, to Gucci and more.

By specialising in designer transformations you can be sure that your trainers are in safe hands. They will be carefully cleaned without damage, but they will be returned squeaky clean and pristine. It’s hard to do both, but that’s why he’s a magician.

Have a look at some of these sneaky transformations.

Price Increase on the Cards?

When I bought my pair a few years back, I’m pretty sure I paid around £380. Since then, the price has gone up to just shy of £500 in some stores, with others quoting £420. I’d say that there is a price increase coming, and some retailers haven’t responded yet. If you’re sitting on the fence, I’d recommend going to try them on and snapping them up before the price adjustment happens.

Let me know what you think of the McQueens? I can’t stop raving about them and I hope you like them too. Let me know which colour you buy.

Lots of love, Jo xoxo
