Dior: Toile De Jouy

With the Summer Solstice bringing the longest day of the year on Tuesday, we have now truly stepped into the sunny summer months. Cue, long summer evenings with the delicious smell of barbecues, sunny strolls along your favourite beach, and rooftop aperols with your best friends. Today’s post highlights some of my favourite summer staples from Maria Grazia Chiuri’s Dioriviera summer capsule.

TOILE DE JOUY

Toile de Jouy, meaning “Fabric of Joy”, is a precious Dior hallmark. This fanciful fabric was born in 1760 in Jouy-en-Josas, and in 1947 Dior chose this print to adorn the walls of the 30 Avenue Montaigne Boutique.

Dior’s iconic Toile de Jouy print features monkeys, tigers, trees and wildlife, creating a whimsical fantasy, enticing you to look deeper and admire the careful craftsmanship.

DIORIVIERA 2020

The Toile de Jouy was reincarnated by Maria Grazia Chiuri in the Spring Summer 2020 (Dioriviera) collection and has featured in her collections since.

This collection is a powerful memory in my Dior journey. It also highlights the Law of Attraction in action. Smile, give, respect others, dress well, and you will attract the wonders of the universe.

BOND STREET FASHION SHOW

Whilst at University, I took a day to trip to London after submitting an essay, and treated myself to a trip to Dior’s Bond Street Boutique. I tried on the J’adior heels and sneakers for size – and I promised to treat myself post Graduation.

Whilst I was chatting to the lovely Sales Associate, she informed me that the Spring Summer 2020 collection was to be showcased in the boutique in a couple of hours, and asked me if I’d like to attend!

I was shocked and excited that she’d asked me to attend; I had only just met this specific SA and I knew that these events are extremely difficult to attend. I was meant to be meeting my friend for dinner at the time that she suggested, and she said that I could have a +1.

The evening was magical to say the least. The collection featured the mystical Toile de Jouy print, and it really felt as though you were in a glamorous rainforest! The models, like elegant giraffes, walked the “catwalk”, of the boutique floors. Guests chatted and shopped, and we were all served delicious canapés and drinks. A live band played as we enjoyed being immersed in this new collection! To add the cherry to the cake, we were also gifted cream canvas tote bags with a beautiful deep navy pattern. It really was an evening to remember.

DIOR NAILS

Whilst I was in Belgrade for one of this year’s “Holiday Relocations”, I visited a beautiful nail studio, “Nail Studio Andrea”, which offers gorgeous Dior manicures with this print. I haven’t seen any other salon in London or Belgrade offering this alluring treatment, but when I saw this on their Instagram feed, I knew I *had* to book in.

Here are a selection of some of my favourite Dior pieces with the Toile de Jouy pattern.

THE BOOK TOTE

The Dior Book Tote is a beautiful beach staple. Available in mini, small, medium and large, I’d recommend the large size for your beach bag. This season’s colours are bright and fluorescent. My favourite was the light pink book tote from the Spring Summer 2020 collection.

Here’s a selection of book totes from VC:

WALK N DIOR SNEAKERS

Long walks along the Italian coast, up the hills and cobbled streets, admiring the views… The Walk N Dior sneakers are the perfect footwear of choice. Whilst thin, elegant and dainty sandals are more synonymous with summer strolls, these Dior Sneakers combine fashion with functionality to create the perfect summer shoe.

This season’s fluorescent capsule features blue, vibrant orange and neon pink.

MITZVAH SCARF

The Dior Mitzvah Scarf is a lovely accessory to add to your book tote, or other beach bag. Another way to wear it is to tie around your wrist, or wear as a fashionable hairband in true South of France style.

Available in fluorescent colours for the summer, and neutrals which can be worn all year round.

NB. Whilst I have been calling this a “Twilly”, this is the Hermes name for a twill. The Dior version is a Mitzvah Scarf.
Mitzvah can be found here for £180.
