Valentino Rockstud: Edgy-Elegant Paradox

Edginess and elegance meet in the iconic Rockstud heels, in a paradox that is unrivalled. Whilst work on the epochal heels started in 1999, they made their debut in 2010, in the Spring/Summer 2011 collection, and have become a flagship marker of the fashion house ever since. Piccioli’s reincarnation of the studs through huge studs, christened as the “Roman Studs”, marks another new era for the show-“stomp”ing shoes.

The Rockstud Heels: An Iconic Outfit Paradox

Created by Dior’s current Creative Director Maria Grazia Chiuri, and Valentino’s current Creative Director Pierpaolo Piccoli, the Rockstud Heels have been gracing runways and streets since the Spring Summer 2011 show.

What I love about the heels is that they are super versatile and have a unique impact on outfits. Pair the block heels with a girly pink outfit, to tone it down and create a more day time look. Pair the 110mm Rockstud sandals with a little black dress to instantly dress it up and elevate it to the next level. The gold 110mm sandals really are a show-stopping dazzling piece and a true winner. These heels have opposing effects on looks, making them an un-replicable statement piece which will stand the test of time of day, season and era. The rockstud heels truly are a fashion paradox.

Moreover, the dainty pointed toe ballerina shoes in light pink are a cute spring summer shoe. Team with a short, house and blazer for a flow, airy outfit.

MY ROCKSTUD JOURNEY

The Rockstuds have been on my list since I was 16 (so back in about 2014), and I finally purchased these gorgeous shoes when I moved back home last year 2020. It was a “Happy 6 months” of IBD present for the deals that I’d worked on to myself and motivated me to keep on working! I opted for the 60mm Rockstud sandals as they are great shoe to wear out for dinners in the UK, and to dance the night away to; the heel is not too high, and the block makes the shoe more stable. I can’t wait to wear them on holiday this summer, too!

I probably spent a year going into the Valentino boutique with my best friend, asking for the rock studs in a light pink shade… the closest shade with the “poudre”. They had about 2 light pink sandals in Europe left, but they were both the wrong size. I really cant wait for Valentino to create pink sandals again – it would be the perfect excuse to add the 110mm pumps to my collection.

Eventually, I bought my coveted sandals in the poudre shade, with gold studs. To say I am over the moon is an understatement. They also now have camouflaged studs, which are great if you prefer to keep your look more discreet. There is a high heel, at 100mm, which is a great way to comfortably add height and dance in, as the block is thick and sturdy! I’d recommend the iconic gold shade – team with  a little white flow dress for a perfect Greek holiday outfit.

SUPER-SIZE ROCKSTUD: THE ROMAN STUD

Pierpaolo Piccioli reincarnated the sharp yet dainty studs in the Spring 2019 show into huge, blunt studs and christened them as “Roman Studs”, giving further Gladiator-vibes

The Roman Stud backless flats are next on my wishlist! I prefer the large Roman Stud sandals to the traditional smaller stud Rockstud flat sandals, as the closed toe and larger studs make them more eye-catching, impactful and powerful.

The flat shoe is perfect for evening summer strolls on a sunny Greek island.

Team the pink flats with an iconic pink skort and short white laced cropped top for the signature Jo look! Colour blocking is *the* trend of the summer, so the bright pink, lemon, or red sandals would make sure that your feet are as on trend as the rest of your outfit.

Alternatively, elevate your look further with the Roman Stud white pointed toe pumps – team with a mid-length flow white dress for a staple evening summer outfit.

The Rockstud quilted flat slippers are another summer staple, and can be worn in the daytime and evenings for a more relaxed look.

Let me know what your favourite shoe is. What’s next on your Wishlist?

Lots of love, Jo xoxo
