Belgrade’s Best Coffees: Part 3

Belgrade’s undiscovered coffee scene, uncovered. Belgrade’s coffee scene is bustling, with cafes on almost every corner. The coffee addict & laptop-club-in-a-cafe-girl in me rejoices – it really is heaven on earth. Here’s a selection of 10 of my favourite coffee places in Belgrade. If you missed part 1, and part 2, you can find them here and here. Stay tuned for a part 4 (yes, I had *a lot* of coffees…)! Scroll down for a little map, so you can see which cafes are close by.

WAY CUP

A contemporary, playful vibe runs throughout this modern marine-palette cafe, creating a fun and creative space for students, those in the arts, and locals. Terrazzo tiling, nautical blue tables and sunshine yellow pillows will have you reminiscing of the Croatian coastline and 🌊 Porto Montenegro. The fun, friendly vibe doesn’t stop at the furniture. The locals in the cafe are cheery and chirpy, chatting to each other across tables and with the barista, creating a collaborative atmosphere.

HOTEL BELGRADE

A busy honeypot, Hotel Beograd cafe is a hive of creative energy. The coffee shop gives me Monocle vibes in terms of the clientele. Think a nouveau-riche-trendy hybrid atmosphere. The coffee shop is pet friendly, and you can be sure to find cute puppies roaming the little space.

The salmon pink speckled floor complements the white marble bar top and birchwood accents, creating a calming, sophisticated atmosphere. The hanging green plants and plush green stools add a slight pop of colour.

KOPPA

An airy cafe round the corner from the iconic Saint Sava Church. When I visited it was a sunny Wednesday; if you choose the outdoor seating, you can admire a beautiful view of the World’s Second Largest Orthodox Church, bask in the sun & listen to the 12 o’clock blissful bells. Am I in a landlocked country or am I on the coastline? Bliss.

BOULANGERIE

A magical sanctuary, tucked behind Ulica Kneza Miloša, La Boulangerie is a tranquil oasis. Monochrome mosaic tiles complement the slightly sheeny white mock brick walls. Deep cream and black weave chairs and iconic glass chandeliers add a distinct Parisienne touch. Bottle green marble tables and light brown floral wallpaper adds warmth to this bright space. I’d recommend for a long coffee & cake date with a friend!

FAMILY CUP

A quaint cafe opposite Belgrade’s Law Faculty, Family Cup is a great study spot! The dark bottle green and black interior creates a sophisticated ambiance, and reminded me of Savile row’s The Service!

This is probably the best Italian style coffee I’ve had outside of Italy, in Serbia & UK combined! Fluffy, frothy and foamy, the cappuccino is a true cloudy delight – you will be devouring it, thinking you’re on cloud 9! Scoop your spoon inside, and experience the true fluffy deliciousness!

LULA

A cute and aesthetic cafe, with a loving and sweet ambiance! The perfect place to have a coffee and catch up with a friend!

🏝Light floods the cafe through two large front windows, which are surrounded my luscious palms.

💛Light brown panelling complements the coral cushions and peach stools.

🎨A white concrete wall with a black line drawing adds a further artistic touch!

🖤The iconic black and white mosaic flooring complements the white wire ‘mathematical grid’-esque railing, which hosts small leafy greens.

GRAM

The EL&N of Belgrade! The coffee says it all, “Za Gram”, “For the Gram”-this cafe is an Instagram lover’s paradise! As well as coffee, Gram have a selection of beautiful & aesthetic treats! Craving a lunchtime treat? The Salmon Sandwich with light, seeded bread is a healthy option. The Frangipane Tart is a pink dessert addict’s must have! I’ve heard great things about the blueberry pie & I for sure will be back!

LEILA RECORDS

A record-store-come-cafe-bar, Leila records houses more than 12,000 tunes, including Yugoslavian jazz, ethno music and new releases. The record store come cafe concept creates a truly unique atmosphere – it really is s.u.c.h. a v.i.b.e.

Choose for the outdoor patio seating to bask in the sun – small, circular white tables create a sunny coffee date spot. If you’re lucky enough to grab a spot at one of the two tables indoors at the French doors, then you’re in for a treat. A rectangular, low set coffee table, comfy sofa seating, french doors that open up onto the patio, but indoors to shield you from any potential warm rain… the perfect spot to enjoy the street view & catch up with a friend over coffee!

Pop by in the evenings for a truly memorable night. The slogan on top of the DJ booth reads “We don’t tell you what to drink – so don’t tell us what to play!”

AVIATOR

Kafeterija took over Aviator 3 years ago, but some of Aviator’s branding still remains, which is a nice touch. Plush emerald green sofa stools are dotted throughout the cafe, complementing the black wooden chairs. There’s a long wooden table which is great for group study sessions. I’d recommend this specific location for group study sessions, when you want more of a quieter, secluded, private atmosphere.

LA BAR

A modern, refined cafe in the heart of Vračar, La Bar is a bright, airy and sophisticated place to recline and relax. It’s probably one of my favourite places to work remotely/ study, when I need a calm, quite space. There is instrumental background music – think guitar and piano – which creates a tranquil atmosphere. The white panelling complements the dark wooden tables, whilst the combination of wicker chairs, plush burnt orange chairs, and houndstooth bar stools creates a unique, distinct interior. I love the luscious green plush sofa – a great, comfy place to sit and work.

Here’s a little map to make your decision a tad easier. As always, let me know what coffee places I should add to Belgrade’s Best Coffee List. Lots of love, Jo xoxo
