Curated by Maria Luisa Frisa, Gucci Cosmos traces Gucci’s history from 19 year old Guccio Gucci’s experience as a porter in London’s Savoy, through the Fashion House’s 102 years to the present day. Fashion dances with music, whilst light and sound intertwine… all to create a captivating fashion experience.

THE LABYRINTH OF ROOMS
Eden – A bright whimsical collection of Gucci’s floral designs. Italian artist Vittorio Accornero de Testa created Gucci’s Flora print on a silk scarf to be gifted to Princess Grace of Monaco. Rumour has it the scarf was made within 24 hours!
Portals – Luggage on the most glamorous carousel you’ll see, accompanied by departure boards, enticing you to book that next trip! The airline flight attendant calls echo around the room, boards flicker, and the multi-layer carousel rotates in both directions, captivating you to admire the various luggage pieces.
Zoetrope – Cantering cantering cantering ponies, a darkened room, mirrors and Gucci’s signature horsebit loafers… this room was one of my favourites. Broken up by Gucci’s equestrian collection, the projected horses swirl around the room, reminiscent of Eadweard Muybridge’s horse moving-image. Admire the classic loafers and horse bit belts as you immerse yourself within the clamour of the horse race. Gucci’s equestrian heritage brings elegance and functionality together; and stirrups, horseshoes and the horsebit continue to play functional and decorative aspects of designs today.
Archive – A bright blue winding wardrobe of wonders shines the spotlight on some of Gucci’s most iconic bags. Pull open draws to reveal more photoshoots and archive items.
I loved the vending machine at the end of the exhibition. Tap the screen and it will select a tailor card for you. Printed on one side is your word, be it “Love”, “Passion” … The other side offers a little more detail. This was Creative Director De Sarno’s idea to spark conversation. Ironically, in the room prior to this, I spotted the “Tell Me You Love Me” cards among the wordsearch-esque walls, and then the machine at the end gifted me the “Love” card. <3
GUCCI TRAVELS ACROSS THE GLOBE
Gucci Cosmos is on at 180 Strand until 31 December, before packing its bags to take a trip to Paris and Kyoto. I’d highly recommend having a catch up coffee with a friend at nearby Somerset House’s Watch House, and then experiencing this 4D immersive wonderland. Let me know what you think!
Lots of love, Jo xoxo
