The OG Y2K piece, the Dior Saddle (here) was the hallmark of noughties fashion and now it is on every fashionista’s radar. Revived in Dior’s Fall 2018 collection, it is a true example that shoes and bags *will* come back into fashion!
The Saddle is not for the faint-hearted, though. It’s a statement piece with an iconic shape which requires you to wear it with confidence and boldness. The question is, are you up for the challenge?
SADDLE PROPHECY
True fashionistas spot trends miles ahead. Now priced at £2,950 on average, the Saddles were on the resell market back in 2018 for about £700! And one of my friends, Eva, managed to eye the diamond among the rough on the pre-loved market and nab an insane vintage deal. Spotting future trends before they occur is an olympic sport, with gold place crowning you a true fashionista blogger – so if you’re looking for true fashion insights, I’d recommend you follow Eva on insta here: @whatevawears. STATEMENT SADDLES
Created in 1999 under the creative directorship of John Galliano, the Saddle made its debut in the Spring/Summer 2000 collection.
The standard saddle retails for just shy of £3k, at £2,950, whilst the mini saddle is priced at £2,600.
- Dior’s iconic navy oblique canvas print is a staple for trend-setters and true Dior fans.

MY WISH LIST
If you know my mission to find *that* Dior pink Lady Dior bag (full lowdown in this post here), then you can imagine how high I jumped when I saw the Antique Pink Saddle Dior (here)! In all honesty, it took a while for the Saddle to grow on me. However, the addition of the practical strap and *T.H.E.* pink shade has tipped the scales in the Saddle’s favour… yes, it has been added to my never ending bag bucket list!
A TRUE VINTAGE?
The original Dior Saddle featured a velcro closure, whilst the reincarnated bag has a snap closure. The magnet is built-in meaning that firm closure is automatic once you put the flap down. It’s definitely a nicer way to shut a bag than annoying magnetic click closures.
The useful long shoulder strap now comes with the bag, whilst in the initial revival the strap was a separate purchase. Simply attach your strap to your saddle for a hands-free look, whilst still being fashionable.
