Belgrade’s Best Brunches

From Ginger to Coconut, Bye Sugar to Super Donkey, Rock&Raw to YumYum, Serbia’s brunch cafes and vegan hotspots have tasteful names to match their delicious food.

In today’s post, I’ll be sharing a few of my favourite places to enjoy avocado toast whilst exploring Serbia’s capital.

Being a European country with firm traditional and religious roots, do note that most cafes are not open on Sundays or have reduced opening hours. Make sure to check this before showing up at the door…. unless you want to be disappointed that you can’t get your avocado fix on a Sunday.

MIAM MIAM

Recommended for: Explosive, zesty, thick, avocado-“mayo” toast

Location: Near Kalenic Market

Review: Founded by Marija Veljanovska, Miam Miam, translating to “Yum Yum”, is a culinary heaven in the heart of Belgrade’s Vračar district. I opted for this delicious Avocado Toast – a basic option? No! Miam Miam have added a super innovative twist to this brunch staple which will get you running back for more. An Avocado-Mayonnaise-esque spread tops the crusty bread – the avocado paste is soft and creamy and has strong zesty vinegar vibes. Believe me, it’s HEAVEN. Topped with juicy pomegranate seeds to add a further kick. You can tell Miam Miam choose the best quality ingredients because nowadays pomegranate seeds can be to dry -but Miam Miam’s seeds are juicy and sweet. The Avocado Toast sure packs a powerful punch!

Recommended for: “I’m Vegan but my friend is a hardcore carnivore” – the Best of Both Worlds

Location: Vračar

Review: The creamy avocado mixture is soft and fluffy. 2 poached eggs rest on top, and once cut, flood the dish with a bright orange paradise. Bemata use gluten-free buckwheat bread – it’s satisfying yet light, and will not leave you feeling bloated! A sprinkling of nuts adds an extra kick, and compliments the refreshing tomato.

Review: The avocado paste is a true delight- I’m not sure what is in this secret recipe, but there are zesty lemon, mint and chive notes. The little side green salad with tomatoes is a light and welcome addition. Topped with a runny poached egg, it’s a yummy brunch dish.
