Fitzrovia boasts a bustling coffee scene – there are many coffee shops tucked away in nooks and crannies. Most places are only open on weekdays, so be sure to check before you pop by on the weekends! Here’s a pick of some of my favourite cafes.
As always, let me know where your go to flat whites are, and I’ll add it to my bucket list.
Lots of love,
Jo xoxo
Attendant
Housed in former Victorian bathrooms, built in the 1890s, abandoned in the 60s for 50 years… and now after 2 years of planning and restoration, have become home to hipster coffee connoisseurs.
Green seating lines the white urinals, shiny marble ledges provide cosy tables and reflective white tiling adds a bright and airy ambiance to what, essentially, are underground toilets. Founders Ryan and Bosh have converted and preserved a historical artefact into an innovative cafe, ensuring that London’s heritage is preserved and we don’t become just anther city with glass walls.
They also have another branch in my former stomping ground, South Quay/ Canary Wharf!
Happy Bones Coffee
Founded by James Robson and Amit Joshi, Happy Bones Coffee is a calming space located on the busy Tottenham Court Rd. It is a great place to have a relaxing coffee if you’re shopping in the area, have just had a workout at F45, or are working in the area and fancied a coffee break.
The muted peach exterior is warming and inviting, with the hanging bike adding a quirky twist. Emerald green and peach-speckled bar tables complement the large floral arrangement at the centre of the cafe. There are plenty of sockets if you fancy having a quick study session.
Alex Coffee
Founded in 2017 by Alex, who continues to create and serve high quality artisan coffee to this day. When I visited, I had a pleasant chat with Alex, finding out about the blend and the ultra-sustainable postable coffee beans. ✅Beans are packed with nitrogen packs to preserve them for 3 months ✅Bags are fully biodegradable and compostable ✅ Sustainably sourced cardboard envelope
Kaffeine
Kaffeine is a true coffee heaven! They host a number of classes throughout the year – and I’m super excited to use my BC birthday present and attend a latte art class!
If you’re popping by for brekkie, try their paleo granola with yoghurt and berry compote… or, if you’re super hungry, opt for the fried egg brioche and plum tomato, feta, avocado, aioli and baby spinach!
Omotesando
A true matcha delight! Omotesando mix their matcha daily, & their matcha latte with oat milk is a light, velvety & warming winter’s drink. It’s not too strong & when combined with milk, it creates a delicate drink.
Omotesando source high quality matcha from the Japanese city of Uji- which produces some of the highest quality matcha in the world! Try it and you will see!
Kiss The Hippo
Established in Richmond in 2018, Kiss The Hippo brings the Scandi coffee scene to the heart of Richmond and, now, Fitzrovia. They use a Loring S-15 Roaster to bring out the unique notes in their coffee. You can be sure that your Flat White is the Creme de la Creme – you may even be lucky & have your cup of caffeine joy created by the former UK Barista Champion, Joshua Tarlo! The staff are lovely, smiley and friendly and sure know they’re coffee blends.
You all know I love EL&N’s pink, princess-y vibe BUT if you’re looking for a more edgy, purple older sister, Busi is your girl! Step into this whimsical lavender land – a vibrant purple coffee machine takes centre stage whilst pink tables with smiley faces scatter the space. There’s a futuristic feel to the place – lilac bathroom tiles adorn the window, whilst purple rocks separate the front & main seating area. Vibrant purple, orange and dark pink whispy wheat is hung in select spots to add a further futuristic feel. Don’t forget to try the hanging chairs with plush pink pillows.
Lantana
A stone’s throw from Oxford Street & Tottenham Court Road, Lantana is a great place to brunch pre-shopping spree or post-spin class. Wooden tables fill the rustic cafe, complementing the navy leather seats to create an Aussie feel. A large monochrome sketch fills the back wall, whilst orange and white tiling behind the bar adds to the chilled atmosphere. If you’re craving a wholesome and chilled brunch, try Lantana!
Miel
Miel was founded in March 2019 by Shaheen Peerbhai, who is also Head Chef, and brings her exceptional patisserie skills to Fitzrovia. Trained at Le Cordon Bleu Paris, and at Alain Ducasse in France, Shaheen has created a bakery that truly is Fitzrovia’s hidden gem.
The love, kindness and care put into each pastry is evident from first bite. Flour is milled in Normandy, the chocolate is sourced from Valrhona, and the eggs are British Free Range. The secret ingredient? The Butter! Miel source butter from Poitou Charentes, where some of the best French butter comes from.
Kin Cafe
A fluffy, frothy cappuccino to fuel your shopping trip round Oxford Street, Tottenham Court Road and Bond Street! Kin cafe use Mayni coffee. The Mayni group consist of 30 families in the Peruvian cloud forests. The community work together to ensure that only the best fruits are pulled from the tree; they protect the rainforest, ensuring that the forests are sustainable and viable for future generations. The coffee gives chooclately, almond and honey notes with an organ acidity! Wholesome, chocolatey coffee – yes, please!
“Honest, fresh and healthy food”! Kin cafe serve a selection of veggie, vegan and gluten free dishes and change up the menu often to ensure fresh produce and a varied menu. They have a selection of dishes which you “wouldn’t know are vegan by their taste”
