Toteme: Sophisticated Minimalism

Swedish minimalist fashion house Toteme has made Mayfair’s Mount Street its London home, and the choice couldn’t be a better fit. Discreet, minimalistic and high quality fashion houses line the street, whilst the sophisticated and refined eateries provide a relaxing spot to stop by for a bite to eat whilst on your peruse down London’s Haute Couture Catwalk. Opened a week or so ago, the bright atmosphere of the store invites you to delve deeper into a handpicked selection of Toteme’s pieces.

ELEVATING, SOPHISTICATED MINIMALISM

Founded by Elin Kling and Karl Lindman in 2014, Swedish fashion house Toteme is nearing its 10th birthday in 2024. Toteme elevates outfits to the next level through their high quality minimalistic pieces, from their artisanal jackets to their high quality shirts. Swedish Mysa is captured in each and every piece, and spreads hugs, loves and warmth to the wearer, and from the wearer.

This minimalistic ethos which runs through the veins of the fashion house has been summarised by Kiln: “Totême revolves around the idea of creating uniforms for different occasions. With fewer pieces that can be styled in different ways. We continuously build upon our woman’s wardrobe, to complement it with hero pieces that can be worn again and again.”

Here are some of my favourite Toteme pieces:

THE ICONIC OVERSIZED SCARF WOOL JACKET

Debuting in November 2021, the wrap round scarf-wool jacket is the epitome of Swedish Myga. Comfortable, like a massive family hug, yet effortless and chic, the jacket wraps round, elevating looks to the next level whilst maintaining a high level of coziness.

The jacket has been on my wish list for a while, especially when I saw one of my close friend’s outfits – she teamed her outfit with stiletto ankle boots for a date night approved look. She’s the Blair of London, and if it’s KP approved, then you know it’s a piece worth having.

Created with a Responsible-Wool certified wool-blend felt, the jacket is a lightly warm piece – cosy, but not overbearing. The large pockets, wide sleeves and oversized fit evokes a relaxed-yet-chic style.

My favourite colour way was the dark grey and ivory. The contrast stitching between the dark grey and white adds a truly artisanal twist to the jacket, and creates the iconic “Toteme Look”. I’d recommend pairing with dark grey wool trousers and a thin black belt for a workwear outfit.

The felt jacket has also been created in light grey with white stitching- the lower contrast makes this coat great for more of a discreet spring time look.

If you’re looking for a light-warm jacket, and would like a versatile piece to pair with many outfits, then, surprise surprise the black on black is the jacket which ticks the boxes. Pair with wide leg black trousers, heels and a tote for a sophisticated yet comfortable weekday outfit.

What I love about this jacket is that it will elevate your look, with minimal effort. For spring time, wearing leggings and a t-shirt to pilates, pop this jacket over the top to suddenly create an off-duty model look. It’s amazing how one piece can have such an aura defining effect.

MOUNT STREET

Located opposite Hideaway, and next door to Scott’s, Toteme has a prime spot on London’s sweet Mount Street. The 3,000-ft space, previously occupied by Balenciaga, is bright and airy, with light flooding in through the large windows which line the front of the store. Previously covered by Balenciaga, through their more caged aesthetic, Toteme has lifted the artificially placed covering to reveal bright glass panes, more traditionally reflecting the red-bricked street’s architecture and, concurrently, the Swedish lightness.

Australian designer Marc Newson’s silver sofa takes centre stage at the front of the store, handpicked by Karl himself. It complements the thick stone flooring and walls, whilst the silver accents throughout the store integrates the two together.

Since 2021, Altor has helped Toteme’s retail expansion globally Toteme’s decade anniversary, 2024, will see two further Toteme stores in LA: Melrose and Palisades Village.

Have you visited London’s Toteme store? What do you think of the pieces and interior? Let me know- would love to discuss. Lots of love, Jo xoxo
